A TEENAGE has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was stabbed outside a subway shop.
Detectives launched the investigation after Tom Roberts, 21, was stabbed to death on the Bournemouth nightclub strip yesterday.
Tom, a DJ, was hospitalized after the fatal attack in the early hours of Saturday morning but later died from his injuries.
The police have now arrested a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of murder, who remains in custody.
The local DJ’s family said they were “heartbroken” by his tragic death and are asking witnesses to come forward.
Flowers were laid at the corner of the green in honor of Mr Roberts yesterday afternoon.
His sister Patti Roberts said: “Today has been so heartbreaking for our family and friends.
“My younger brother Tommy was murdered in the early hours of this morning in Bournemouth town centre. So if you know anything that could help the police, please get in touch.
“He was only 21 years old. He wanted to be a navy. He deserves justice.”
A large park in the area was cordoned off after the fatal attack, and forensics are still combing the area.
Andrew Christopher, a 25-year-old student living in Bournemouth, said: “It’s scary that we walk through this area regularly – everyone does. It is frightening.”
Yasser Abuali, 35, said: “I feel very uneasy and very insecure.
“It’s a residential area and of course there are clubs but it’s not safe for a household and some of the blocks here also have children and I don’t think they would be comfortable knowing that this happened.”
Kelly Scott, 31, added: “It feels like Bournemouth has gotten so unsafe over the last few years that I don’t feel safe walking around now and after that I definitely won’t be.”
Detective Inspector Simon Huxter of the Major Crime Investigation Team added: “A full and detailed investigation into this incident is ongoing and our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this very difficult time
“I would urge anyone who has seen what happened and has not yet spoken to officers to contact Dorset Police immediately
“I am also keen to hear from anyone who witnessed what happened or recorded anything relevant on home CCTV or dash cam, please get in touch.
“While we conduct our early investigation, a cordon will remain in place to allow officers and crime scene investigators to conduct their investigations. I want to thank the public for their patience and understanding while this important work is taking place.
“The public will see an increased police presence in the area in the coming days and officers from the local neighborhood policing team can reach out to them with any concerns.”
