Melvin eventually learns that his fiance Lisa (King) has been keeping a pretty big secret from him – she’s pregnant with their child. However, the initial reaction of the writer was not one of complete joy as he did not want to have children before, but he eventually came up with the idea.

Is Aml trying to make another twist on the story of the absent father?

The actor told Metro.co.uk: ‘I know a lot of dope black dads, that’s mostly what I know to be honest.’

He added: ‘I’ve been trying to talk more about the difficulty of growing up and the difficulty of responsibility and how so many young men, Black or otherwise, we fear that the moment that our lives become all about another person and about a family.’

He continued: ‘It’s also about him healing his heart with his relationship with his father, so it’s more of that nature than dispelling the myth of the absent father by because I see almost exclusively in my world, my life, black fathers. ‘

Boxing Day is Aml’s directorial debut, and you’d think it’s a difficult thing to master when co-starring in the same movie.

However, former star Bill tried his best and said: ‘Had to jump between observing myself and rushing back to watch the tapes but I found it not too challenging in that sense. I was so excited while making the movie and so full of energy that I always felt happy.

‘It’s really lovely to make something out of your imagination. Because I wrote it and it’s about my family, it’s great to see something go from your mind into the physical world. ‘

His co-star Leigh-Anne emotionally recalled: ‘I remember watching you dance from behind the camera, then in front of the camera and thinking, ‘this guy is a genius, how does he do this? How are you directing a movie and acting at the same time?” It blew my mind personally. Props for you.’

Meanwhile, Leigh-Anne revealed about her Nervous sings without her Little Mix bandmates for the first time in the movie.

Boxing Day will open in cinemas on Friday.
