In the $50 million defamation lawsuit between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, both Depp and Heard released statements through their spokespersons. They reiterated their claims of innocence and updated the public on how they think things are going. What have you had to say about the process so far?
Amber Heard gave vivid testimony about alleged abuse by Johnny Depp before releasing her statement
During Heard’s testimony at the defamation trial, she detailed how Depp allegedly abused her verbally, physically and sexually. She said this happened throughout their relationship. Specifically, she claimed he punched, kicked and pushed her, pulled her hair out, and assaulted her with a liquor bottle through forced sexual penetration.
Depp has firmly denied allegations of being a perpetrator of acts of criminal domestic violence described by Heard. On the contrary, he claimed he was the silent victim of abuse. He claimed in his testimony that Heard severed part of his finger by throwing a bottle at him and left it bloodied when she threw a can of spirits, which hit him in the head. In addition, he said she constantly instigated physical fights that resulted in her hitting or punching him.
In her statement, Heard described what she said when she first hit Depp and claimed it was self-defense. She claimed he had been aggressive towards her sister and they were at the top of a flight of stairs. That’s when she reportedly recalled someone telling her that Depp had pushed Kate Moss down the stairs.
Heard confessed that she “attacked” Depp, which is partly due to this story about Moss. Remarkably, Depp’s legal team appeared to celebrate this claim.
According to Heard, both sides released statements to the public.
Johnny Depp’s testimony from Amber Heard claimed she included “new and practical details” in the testimony
A spokesman for Depp released a statement shared by the Law&Crime Network Twitter. It addressed and reiterated Heard’s statement Pirates of the Caribbean star’s claim of innocence regarding physical and sexual violence against her.
“As Mr. Depp’s attorney correctly predicted in her opening statements last month, Ms. Heard did indeed deliver ‘the performance of her life,’ in her direct investigation,” they wrote. They continued, saying their “stories have always developed new and practical details,” while “Depp’s memories have remained exactly the same in the six painful years since her initial allegations were made.”
The statement, completed by sharing Depp’s legal team, will “certainly highlight the many fallacies that Ms Heard has now tried to pass off as fact” under cross-examination.
Amber Heard’s testimony from Johnny Depp said he lacked the “strength or courage” to look at her in court
Law&Crime also took care of the matter Twitter when Heard’s team released a statement. Their rep suggested Depp “consider a new strategy, rather than the recycled approach of attacking the victim and refusing to take responsibility for their own behavior.”
“No wonder Mr Depp doesn’t have the strength or courage to even look at Ms Heard throughout the trial – as he couldn’t at the British trial – and instead doodles and giggles,” the statement continued.
They concluded by noting that Depp’s “conduct at this trial was as pathetic as it was at their marriage” and accused him of trying to “distract the jury and demonize the victim.”
The process is now suspended while the judge attends a previously scheduled conference. Depp and Heard are expected back in court when testimony resumes on May 16, 2022.
