Boris Johnson set to cut VAT on energy bills to save people hundreds of pounds

BORIS Johnson is “likely” to cut VAT on energy bills – saving everyone hundreds of pounds as bills soar.
Although no final decision has been made on how to help millions of people facing soaring energy costs, the Prime Minister is said to be enthusiastic about the idea of a cut VAT.
Prime Minister and Prime Minister by meet to discuss the matter and rounded up their long list into a short selection list.
Any announcements will be made after Ofgem confirms price caps will increase in early February – but bills rise won’t come until April.
Insiders stress that cuts are always on the table, but are being viewed in a more favorable light.
The Prime Minister previously downplayed the idea when voiced by The Sun, stressing that it was better to target those instead the least well-off.
But back to 2016 Boris Johnson and Michael Gove looked the British people in the eye and – writing in The Sun – solemnly pledged that leaving the European Union would mean “lower fuel bills for everyone”.
After mulling it over, insiders suggest it’s likely the VAT cut will be accompanied by another measure aimed at poorer households.
A source close to the Prime Minister said: “There are a lot of options on the table, including a VAT cut… There is a school of thought that you can do something about it.
for everyone, such as a VAT cut and something more targeted for the least affluent but it still has to be decided. “
Meanwhile, scores of Tory MPs are demanding a rethink the National Insurance tax hike – also coming in early April.
Government sources last night insisted it would proceed as planned – despite a flurry of top Tories calling for it to be delayed for a year.
Former housing secretary Robert Jenrick and former Brexit boss David Davis are among those calling for a halt to the £12bn tax collection.
It will hit pay plans in the new tax year.
A Government source said last night: “The NHS and social care money are vital to ensuring the NHS receives the funding it needs to tackle the backlog caused by the pandemic.
“This government is determined to achieve social care reform, which has been avoided for too long. NICs are a progressive way to raise money, with every individual contributing according to their means and protected. lowest pay.”
