Borinquen brings a taste of Puerto Rico to SoCal

LANCASTER, California – Jessica Pacheco wants people to know about Puerto Rican food. The chef and owner of Borinquen in Lancaster loves when people come to her restaurant and try her unique dishes.

She said: “Borinquen comes from a passion for food. The distinct flavors come from Spanish and African influences, as well as Tano, the original inhabitants of Puerto Rico.

While they serve the typical Spanish food most people already know, Borinquen stands out because it’s all made with typical Puerto Rican flavors.

“When you taste our food, you will see the difference,” says Pacheco. Some of the most popular items on the menu are the Empanadas and pulled pork served with arroz con gandules, or rice with pigeon peas.

It’s important for Jessica to share the taste of her hometown with everyone, a taste many may not have experienced. “That means a lot to me,” she said.

These flavors bring back some memories of their family’s home cooking. The nostalgic taste makes them emotional.

“I’ve had people come here, and they cried, they literally cried, and I’m not exaggerating that,” Pacheco said.
