(CNN) – Kaillie Humphries, who has won two Olympic gold medals representing Canada, will qualify to compete for the United States at next year’s Winter Olympics in Beijing after being sworn in as the an American citizen, said the Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation of America.
Humphries, 36, was released by Bobsleigh Canada in 2019, a year after she filed a harassment complaint against the regulator alleging she was verbally abused by her former coach and emotional.
Due to International Olympic Committee regulations, Humphries requires citizenship from her adoptive country in order to be able to represent the United States at the Olympics.
“I am more emotional than I thought. Even though you trust your application and you know it meets the requirements, you don’t know,” said Humphries, the five-time world champion.
“It’s been a long journey, it’s been a team effort and it feels great to have the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.”
Humphries won gold medals at the Vancouver and Sochi Olympics and won bronze at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics.
