Bobby Brown thinks Whitney Houston would still be alive if they didn’t get divorced

Whitney Houston shared her personal struggles with the world and spoke at length about her battle with drug addiction. In a 2009 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Houston claimed that she and then-husband Bobby Brown had indulged together at the height of their addiction. Now Brown is reflecting on his life and career in an upcoming documentary and series. He believes Houston would not have died if they had not divorced.
Bobby Brown thinks Whitney Houston would still be alive if they didn’t divorce and reveals what tore them apart
Houston filed for divorce in 2006. A year later, the divorce was finalized. Brown says he was able to sober from narcotics while filing for divorce years before Houston while in prison and has been sober from narcotics ever since. While he admits that both he and Houston have tried to get sober numerous times throughout their marriage, they have failed. But Brown says he’s determined.
“It was really hard because I was so addicted. I had to be put on a medical detox first,” he said in a recent interview with People Magazine. “And then the Bible got me through. It was about becoming healthier for my daughter [Bobbi Kristina] and for the rest of my children.”

Unfortunately, the “I’m Your Baby Tonight” singer wasn’t so lucky and tried to stay sober until her death in 2012. “I think we could have helped each other,” he revealed on his upcoming A&E documentary and reality series. “I think she would still be here if we didn’t get divorced.”
Production insiders from the documentary and subsequent reality series told The Sun they believe Brown’s honesty about Houston “will finally help show the world Bobby’s regrets, his struggle to stay sober, and his regrets.” The source continued, “Bobby admits that instead of hating each other, their lives have been destroyed by addiction. Certainly both hoped that it would not be otherwise. These interviews certainly shed a different light on what the world might believe to be the true nature of Whitney and Bobby’s lives. Moments are truly heartbreaking. His public image as a bad boy will probably also be reconsidered.”
He says he was shocked to learn Whitney Houston was using drugs at the time of her death
Despite the divorce, Brown and Houston remained co-parents to their only daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown. To a certain extent, they even remained friends.
Houston was found submerged in a bathtub in her hotel room on February 11, 2012 and was pronounced dead at the scene. According to an autopsy report, she died from accidental drowning, heart disease, and cocaine was also found in her system. Brown was stunned by the autopsy findings.
He told People magazine: “I thought she would pull herself together, I thought she was doing a really good job trying to get sober and I didn’t think she would turn back [to drugs].”
The singer has found love in Alicia Etheredge-Brown
Brown and Etheredge-Brown met and were friends in the 80’s before he married Houston. She even attended their 1992 wedding and says she comforted Brown when he got cold feet and almost didn’t make it to the altar. The two got back together amid his and Houston’s divorce.
Etheredge-Brown eventually became his manager and helped him revitalize his music career. They have been married since 2012.
