It often takes time to spot a racquet. Think Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker. For years they preyed on decent, praying Americans, betraying them while presenting themselves as people of faith. Or do you remember Peter Popoff? He was constantly exposed for selling fraudulent products intended to “cure” people. They did nothing of the kind. But he still took advantage of the kindness and hope of the people.
These over-the-top televangelists claim they can’t build their brand new church unless you donate your hard-earned dollars. Or buy their magical medicinal water. They’re constantly topping up their personal empires or splashing it on overpriced hookers.
Now we have new religions and a whole new religious caste. Like the worst shopkeepers of old, they prey on our new vulnerabilities. In our day and age, few groups are as culpable as the people who run the Black Lives Matter movement.
Like the most deceitful pastors that Head of BLM Use good people. They present an undeniably good cause. They prey on people’s hopes and fears. After all, who in America doesn’t believe that black lives matter? Who wouldn’t have sympathy or support for a group that claims to want to help people fight injustice? But BLM works like all racquets.
First, they lie about reality. In the case of BLM, They act like black people could be killed by police anytime in the United States in 2022. They act as if racism is a pandemic in this country and everything must be done to fight it.
The effects of this work are visible to all. The American public has been misled about the real state of the breed in this country. A 2020 poll asked Americans how many unarmed black men they thought had been killed by police in America in the previous year. More than a fifth of people who described themselves as “very liberal” said they think more than 10,000 unarmed black people are killed by police in America every year. Among the self-proclaimed “Liberals,” about 40% said they thought the figure was between 1,000 and 10,000. The actual number was about 10. That means the liberals in America were off by several orders of magnitude. They had a completely wrong idea of what America actually is.
But no wonder. Because they had spent years listening to BLM pretend black people are being killed with impunity in this country. And that instead of knowing the names of almost every single one of the most controversial police interactions, we somehow cover them all up. “Say their names,” they sing. But everyone in America knows the name George Floyd. As we know the name of the police officer sentenced to life imprisonment for his murder.
But like the Huckster pastors, BLM dictates otherwise. They present a false reality and then present a false solution. How practical for her that the solution is enriching her.
Just as Peter Popoff pretended to wash away all your ills with his magical spiritual water, BLM pretended they could tackle America’s disease if you mailed the checks. They portrayed America as irrevocably racist and then said only they could redeem this country. How the money came in.
And it wasn’t just gullible individuals, it was giant corporations, corporations and the super rich that paid. Like guilds that paid off the old church, large financial institutions made huge payments to BLM. Partly like a kind of protective racket. “Our company must not be racist because we support BLM,” they said. “So next time there’s a riot, make sure the mob goes right past us and burns down the shop next door. Because we are the chosen ones.”
The High Priestess
Meanwhile, good people have been tricked into parting with their money to pay for a cause that has no accountability and seems to have used their funds only to enrich their leaders.
As it turns out, what a bang. It’s been a year since the New York Post uncovered the real estate empire of BLM co-founder Patrisse Khan-Cullors. The 38-year-old once claimed to be a “trained Marxist”. As if that were a real discipline. But it turned out that the only thing she really learned about Marxism was that some Marxists are more equal than others.
Now the rest of the media is catching up with the story. This week, New York magazine reported extensively BLM’s $5.8M purchase of swanky new mansion in Southern California.
How did Cullors, the High Priestess of the BLM, react to this? Why, of course, with accusations that the story was “racist and sexist.” She tried to shut it down, just as she had previously worked with the social media companies to try to quash the reports in the Post’s revelations about her gorgeous lifestyle.
If Cullors were a corrupt televangelist, she would claim that her critics sinned against God. In today’s racial religion, Cullors claims that their critics are sinning against BLM. It’s a smart way of working. But it’s also very familiar.
Both Cullors and the organization she leads are now at a critical juncture. The American people can now see through them. We can see that they may have started something for a good cause. But they made a deal out of it. And then quickly into a racket. A racket they seem to have benefited from. America has a long list of snake oil sellers who claimed to be people of faith. Let the BLM’s “trained Marxist” minds join this ugly and shameful list.
