FRANKFURT (Reuters) – BioNTech and Pfizer’s established COVID-19 vaccine will likely offer strong protection against any serious illness from the new Omicron virus variant, BioNTech’s CEO told Reuters. even when the biotech company Protect created a latch for an adaptive version of the shot.
Lab tests are currently underway over the next two weeks to analyze the blood of people who have received two or three doses of BioNTech’s Comirnaty vaccine to see if the antibodies found in that blood inactivate Omicron. or not.
Sahin told Reuters he expected the results to show a vaccine’s effectiveness against mild and moderate disease caused by Omicron, but the extent of that loss is difficult to predict.
