Billy Bob Thornton Debuts in ‘1883’ [Exclusive Premiere]

1883 premiered on Paramount Network on Sunday night (December 19), and the show features a cast of heavyweights. Tim McGraw, Hill of Faith and Sam Elliott starred in the highly anticipated show and one of the first episodes featured a guest appearance by Billy Bob Thornton. Taste of Country readers can see his first scene on the show before anyone else in an exclusive first look.

1883 is a prequel to Yellowstone in which McGraw and Hill played James and Margaret Dutton, great-grandparents of Yellowstone patriarch John Dutton (Kevin Costner). The show follows their family’s journey West from Texas to Montana, where they would eventually establish Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, which served as the setting for the hit show run away.

Elliott portrays the character of Shea Brennan, a Pinkerton agent who is traveling with his family as part of a large wagon train of people in search of a better life. When the train is attacked by bandits that kill several tourists in Episode 2, Dutton, Brennan, Thomas (LaMonica Garrett) and many others travel to nearby Forth Worth, where they believe the bandits have taken shelter.

They consult with the local attorney, Marshal Jim Courtright, played by Thornton. Courtright is a real historical figure, and history tells that he was a fast-paced gunman who became a crooked lawmaker, a position he used to extort protection money from businesses. local industry. But that required him to enforce the law, and he did, reportedly cutting the crime rate in Fort Worth in half during his tenure.

In the exclusive scene below, we see Thornton in the Courtright character for the first time, sitting behind his desk as he tells Dutton he will have to be appointed to take part in what lies ahead and does not end at the end of a rope. His true attitude to the law shows in the way he openly describes Dutton, while he completely dismisses the concerns of another character that he clearly does not consider normal. class.

This scene leads to a climactic scene that fans got a glimpse of in the trailer 1883, in which Courtright offers some rough justice.

1883 airs every Sunday via Paramount+. The first two episodes are already available via the app. The first episode premieres later Yellowstone on Paramount Network on Sunday night (December 19), while the second episode will air on Paramount next Sunday (December 26) following Yellowstone before the show switched to a permanent stream-only format.
