Bills’ initial 53-man roster is mostly healthy

ORCHARD PARK, NY (WIVB) — The Bills have been almost fully involved in the team’s first practice since the roster was reduced to 53 players.
Connor McGovern, the scheduled starter at left, was back on the training ground Wednesday after a knee injury prevented him from playing the final preseason game along with linebackers Terrel Bernard (hamstring) and Dorian Williams (calf) and receiver Khalil Shakir to participate (ribs).
Bernard, the Bills’ third-round draft pick in 2022, competed with Tyrel Dodson and AJ Klein for the starting middle linebacker position before missing all of preseason due to his injury. Klein was released Tuesday but was able to return to the Bills roster before the Sept. 11 season opener against the Jets.
Sophomore linebacker Baylon Spector (hamstring injury) is listed week-to-week and could be placed on injury reserve early in the season. Spector and rookie receiver Justin Shorter (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday, suggesting possible IR moves for the Bills to vacate roster spots.
Buffalo is expected to re-sign long snapper Reid Ferguson allegedly plans to add veteran attacking player Germain Ifedi to the 53-man roster. Ifedi, a first-round pick in 2016, has started 83 games for the Seahawks and Bears. He was released by the Lions after the preseason.
