Lady Gaga received a standing ovation from the audience at the Grammy Awards for her performance of “Do I Love You” from her album with Tony Bennett. love for sale.
Among the Las Vegas crowd showing their support on Sunday (April 3) was fellow nominee Billie Eilish, who was caught screaming and cheering as Gaga starred.
Gaga dedicated the performance to Bennett, saying after the song, “I love you Tony, we miss you.”
Gaga’s tribute was also adored by fans who weren’t in the room. “Lady Gaga honored Tony Bennett in the most beautiful way,” one wrote on social media.
Tony Bennett introduced Gaga via pre-recorded video but was unable to attend the Grammys in person due to health issues.
Danny Bennett, his son and manager, shared a statement diversity last week confirmed Bennett’s absence from the awards ceremony.
The statement said: “Tony is beyond thrilled, especially at the young age of 95, to once again be recognized by the Recording Academy for their album alongside his musical collaborator and dear friend Lady Gaga love for sale.
“To have the album nominated in six categories including Album of the Year and Record of the Year is an incredible honor.
“Although the producers invited both Tony and Gaga to appear on Sunday’s Grammys show, it was unfortunate that he was unable to accept due to his ongoing battle with Alzheimer’s.
“It was decided that it would be appropriate for Lady Gaga to perform alone to represent both of them.”
It said: “There is no doubt that she will give an impeccable performance love for sale, which is Tony’s final album. He’ll be cheering for them as he watches from his home in New York City.”
The two played a song from their first album, Cheek to Cheek, at the 2014 Grammys.
He is the oldest nominee for Album of the Year of all time.
