Bill Murray speaks out for the first time on a complaint of improper conduct against him

Bill Murray has addressed the complaint of inappropriate behavior made against him on set to be mortal, which led to the suspension of film production in April.

Production on Aziz Ansari’s directorial debut was halted after Searchlight Pictures emailed the decision on April 20. It is not known what the exact nature of the complaint was or who filed it.

In an interview on CNBC Television on Saturday (April 30), Murray said: “I had a disagreement with a woman I work with. I did something that I thought was funny and it wasn’t received that way.”

He added, “The film studio wanted to do the right thing, so they wanted to check and investigate everything and stopped production.”

Murray said he was in contact with the woman he insulted.

“Right now we’re talking and we’re trying to make peace with each other,” he said. “We are both professionals. We like each other’s work – we like each other, I think.

“If we don’t get along and we can’t trust each other, there’s no point in continuing to work together or in making a film… It’s been quite an education for me. I haven’t done much other than think about her for the past week or two.”

Murray said he has not spoken to studio Searchlight Pictures about the complaint, saying: “Only with her and the people who help her. The important things first.”

The letter from Searchlight Pictures reads: “Late last week we were made aware of a complaint and we acted on it immediately.

“After reviewing the circumstances, it has been decided that production cannot proceed at this time. We are really grateful to you all for everything you put into this project. We hope to resume production and are working with Aziz and Youree to determine that timing.” Youree Henley is producing the film.

to be mortal based on the 2014 book by surgeon Atul Gawande, Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End. In addition to directing, Ansari directs his own Netflix show master of nothing – wrote the screenplay and will star in the film alongside Keke Palmer and Seth Rogen.

The film was originally slated for a 2023 release.
