Biden’s nuclear official Sam Brinton is accused in the second luggage robbery

A Biden Department of Energy official who allegedly stole a woman’s suitcase from a Minneapolis airport in September has been accused of another luggage robbery at a Las Vegas airport.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Sam Brinton, the deputy assistant secretary for spent fuel and waste management at the Department of Energy’s Office of Nuclear Energy, on charges of grand theft, 8 News Now reported Thursday.

Brinton, who made history as one of the first gender-biased federal government officials, allegedly stole luggage from another traveler at Harry Reid International Airport in Vegas on an unknown date, according to the outlet.

Details about the alleged theft are scarce, but 8 News Now said Brinton, 35, was charged with grand theft valued at between $1,200 and $5,000.

The energy official who uses she/them pronouns reportedly has sticky fingers for suitcases.

Brinton has been placed on leave by the Department of Energy after it emerged they were charged with theft for reportedly taking the suitcase of a Vera Bradley woman from baggage claim at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport on September 16, according to court records.

The suitcase and the woman’s belongings inside were valued at $2,325.

Brinton initially denied taking the luggage, but later claimed they mistook it for her own bag at baggage claim – although they had never checked a bag before their flight, according to court records.

They are said to have removed the suitcase’s identification tag after taking it from the baggage carousel, video surveillance showed.

They were later seen using Vera Bradley’s suitcase at least twice when they traveled to Washington, DC on September 18 and October 9, investigators said.

Brinton was subsequently charged with stealing chattel without consent and was placed on leave following the allegation.

Earlier this week, a group of House Republicans called on Brinton to resign over the initial allegations.

Rep. Andrew Clyde of Georgia and 15 other Republicans sent a letter to Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm on Tuesday calling for her removal from the department.

“We call for the resignation of Sam Brinton and we implore you to put petty politics aside and appoint only the most qualified and committed individuals to influence America’s energy sector,” the GOP lawmakers wrote.
