Biden warns Dems he will only have veto power if they lose during halftime

President Biden warned lawmakers Friday that the “veto pin” will be the only power he will have if Democrats lose Congress in the 2022 midterm elections.

Speaking in campaign mode at the House Democratic Caucus Issues Conference in Philadelphia, Biden, 79, told party members they must stick to the House and Senate to implement his agenda.

“This off-year election, in my view, could be the most important off-year election in modern history,” Biden said.

“Because we know what’s happening, we know the fundamental change that will shift if we lose the House and Senate,” he continued. “The only thing I’ll have then is a veto pen.”

Biden also said he was “tired” of Republicans. accused him of driving up gas prices and sky high inflation.

“I’m sick of this stuff,” he told the crowd. “We need to talk about this because the American people think the reason for inflation is that the government spends more money – just not true.”

Biden told his supporters Vladimir Putin was “mainly” to blame for high gas prices. But he said the Russian leader failed to “divide” the US and its allies with his war in Ukraine when he gave a speech that was very similar to his Thursday address at the winter meeting of the Democratic National Convention in Washington DC.

“It was not the Democrats who caused this problem, but Vladimir Putin. And we’re working hard to fix it,” Biden said in announcing increased domestic oil production.

“We are a democracy. And for it to work, there has to be a consensus. And consensus, you have to get a majority. We didn’t manage to do that on many important things, so we have to keep our majority.” said the President.

Biden urged Democratic candidates to run based on the country’s improved unemployment and COVID-19 vaccination rates. He also said Democrats should brag about the November Passage its infrastructure billand claimed it would “change America.”

The president reiterated that he would not escalate Russia’s war by sending American troops, but said the US has a “sacred duty” to defend NATO territory as thousands of troops are stationed in countries bordering Ukraine.

“The idea, the idea that we’re going to send offensive equipment and use planes and tanks and trains with American pilots and American crews, just understand, don’t kid yourself, no matter what you all say, that’s called World War III, okay ?” he said.

Biden spoke to lawmakers and their guests for 37 minutes a day after two nightly votes in Congress a $1.5 trillion spending plan including an emergency aid package for Ukraine.

He received sporadic applause, but long stretches of his speech were met with silence from the weary crowd. Biden warns Dems he will only have veto power if they lose during halftime
