BGT star Jonathan Goodwin and Sherlock actress Amanda Abbington’s fiance are left paralyzed after a dangerous stunt went wrong

sherlock Star Amanda Abbington has opened up about a stunt that left her daring fiancé paralyzed.

In 2021 Jonathan Goodwin appeared as a candidate Britain’s Got Talent performed a stunt in 2019 in which he planned to escape from a straitjacket while hanging upside down between two suspended cars 30 feet in the air.

However, the cars were released early and Goodwin was crushed between them

“He fell 30 feet and lost a kidney, fractured both shoulder blades, crushed both legs,” Abbington explained on the podcast Lunch with Jay Rayner.

“Third degree burns, fractured his spine and severed his spinal cord and nearly died. And then he almost died again on the operating table.”

She continued: “He’s now paralyzed, he’s in a wheelchair. Unless there’s some sort of stem cell surgery or that thing Elon Musk designs with the little chip, he’ll be like this forever.”

Abbington said Goodwin has “stayed positive and upbeat and so strong,” adding, “His courage and strength is something I just want to aspire to.”

Abbington was friends with Goodwin on social media for 10 years before they began a relationship.

She says he proposed to her within half an hour of meeting and the couple plan to wed this summer.
