Scott Mescudi, better known as Kid Cudi, had two of five Best Song nominations at the Critics Choice Awards. He co-wrote both “Guns Go Bang” and “Just Look Up” from Don’t look up. If the Oscars follow and nominate both songs, it will mark the first time a musician has been nominated with songs from two different films in the same year since. Lionel Richie doubled 36 years ago with “Say You, Say Me” from White Night (won) and “Sister” from Purple.

The musical races at the Oscars are starting to get heated with the announcement of both the Critics and Golden Globe nominations on Monday. Three songs and two tracks have been nominated by both shows and should therefore be considered Oscar winners.

“Be Alive” from King Richard, “Dos Oruguitas” from Encanto and “No Time to Die” of the film of the same name were ranked for Best Original Song at both shows.

The other two nominations for Best Original Song at the Golden Globes were “Down to Joy” from Belfast and “Here I Am (Singing My Way Home)” from Respect. The other two nominees at the Critics Choice Awards were “Guns Go Bang” from The harder it is for them to fall and “Just Look Up” from Don’t look up.

Sand dunes (Hans Zimmer) and The power of the dog (Jonny Greenwood) is the best base score in both programs.

The other three nominations for best original score at the Golden Globes were French Dispatch (Alexandre Desplat), Encanto (Germaine Franco) and Parallel mothers (Alberto Iglesias). The other three nominations at the Critics Choice Awards are Don’t look up (Nicholas Britell), Spencer (Greenwood) and Nightmare Alley (Nathan Johnson).

As such, Greenwood had two out of five nominations for best score at the Critics Choice Awards. Last year, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross had two of the six nominees with soul (which they collaborated with Jon Batiste) and Mank. (soul won.) Greenwood is of course Radiohead’s lead guitarist and keyboardist; Reznor and Ross include another top rock band, Nine Inch Nails.

Of this year’s Critics Choice Award nominations in a music category, there has been only one winner in that category before. Zimmer, nominated for Sand dunes, won 21 years ago for Fighter.

The two nominations for Best Original Song (on both shows) are good news for Billie Eilish and and her brother Finneas, who co-wrote “No Time to Die”, and Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote “Dos Orugitas.”

“There is no time to die” is already an award winner. It won a Grammy Award on March 14 for best song written for visual medium and an award for song-film from the Hollywood Media Music Awards on November 17.

If Miranda wins an Oscar for “Dos Orugitas,” he’ll be an EGOT. He will be 42 years old on Oscar night, which will make him the third youngest EGOT in history, following Robert Lopez and John Legend, both were 39 years old when they won the EGOT spot.

In the last two years, both the Golden Globes and the Critics’ Choice Awards (and the Oscars) have unanimously agreed. Joker and soul for the best origin. But lately there aren’t many deals for the best original song. Last year, all three of these awards showed different winners. The Critics’ Choice Award was given to “Speak Now” from A night in Miami…, Golden Globe awarded to “Io Si (Seen)” from Life ahead, the Oscar went to “Fight for You” from Judas and the Black Messiah.

The 27th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards will air live from Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles on The CW and TBS on Sunday, January 9 from 7-10 p.m. ET (hours delayed. PT). Taye Diggs and Nicole Byer will host the show, which is co-produced by Bob Bain Productions and Berlin Entertainment.
