PSG super star mbappe Certain to join his French team-mate in Spain next season, he demonstrated his own superior talent with a first-half goal that seemed to have propelled his side into the last eight.

But in the second half, the 13-time European champion collapsed amazingly Madrid Steamroller into the quarterfinals.

It also condemned the former PSG Tottenham boss Maurice Pochettino to more Champions League heartbreak after losing the 2019 final with Spurs.

Mbappe, 23, could only watch in horror as his defense collapsed after his fine first-half work seemed to have put them on course for a first win at Madrid’s famed Bernabeu stadium.

It was his first game there too and a superb goal after 39 minutes was the perfect way to show what’s in store if he plays there every week next season in what is set to be a sensational free transfer once his contract in Paris expires .

But veteran warrior Benzema, 34, proved there is no substitute for experience as he kept his cool while Paris Saint-Germain lost theirs and turned the tie in Madrid’s favor on a remarkable night in Europe.

Mbappe’s international team-mate has now scored 79 Champions League goals but few have been as important as those in guiding his team to victory and easing the pressure on coach Carlo Ancelotti.

Especially when Madrid looked dead and buried at half-time thanks to a clinical strike from Mbappe, who was both ruthless and quick.

He snagged a sweeping counterattack from Brazil’s Neymar from within his own half, then raced through and slipped before placing a right foot shot to defeat Thibaut Courtois at the near post.

Five minutes earlier, a tight VAR decision had ruled out another goal for a player who is currently being touted as arguably the best in the world.

Mbappe also went offside in the second half to deny a stylish second goal as he made a cheeky move over to beat Courtois again.

But if Mbappe had any doubts about leaving Pochettino in Paris in May, it was erased with the way PSG simply imploded in a pile of shredded nerves after half-time.

Benzema had come close in the first half to send out a warning that he wasn’t going to give up and then got to work in the second.

Just after the hour he was lucky to get away without a foul on PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma but did enough to put the entire defense to flight, sinking a shot from the box after a shot on goal to make it 2-1 on aggregate .

In the 64th minute, Benzema was unlucky when a classic number 9 header rolled just wide of the post, but with PSG in full retreat he didn’t have to wait long for another bang on goal.

With 14 minutes to go and Pochettino’s team, Benzema rocked a through ball from Luka Modric to deflect the ball to equalise.

Immediately after kick-off, another missed pass from PSG caused fear and a clatter from Marquinhos on the edge of the box. Benzema stayed calm to slice a deft shot into the post to seal an amazing comeback win.
