Ryan Poles has a warning for the rest of NFC North originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
The Chicago Bears has the new leadership of general manager Ryan Poles and head coach Matt Eberflus. Now begins the long journey to establish the Bears as consistent winners.
And Poland solved that problem immediately.
“We’ll take the North and never give it back,” Poles said
NFC North has been dominated by the Green Bay Packers in recent seasons. Since 2011, the Packers have had eight divisional crowns. The bears have one (2018) and the Minnesota Vikings have two more.
Bears fans are tired of seeing the Packers, with a pair of Hall of Fame-backed quarterbacks in Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers dominating the league. Over the past 20+ seasons, the Packers have closed the gap in head-to-head record while surpassing the Bears with the most wins of all time, a record the Bears have held for a century.
The message is sure to hit the right note.
Before taking the job at Halas Hall, the 36-year-old Polish spent 13 years with the Chiefs organization, most recently as their player personnel executive. Poles comes from a college game-focused scouting background and joined the Kansas City main office as a scouting assistant in 2009. He was the team’s director of college admissions in 2009. 2017, so he spearheaded Chief’s college search efforts when the trading team drafted Patrick Mahomes.
Bears added Polish background information in their introduction announcement.
“The Poles oversee all aspects of national university recruiting for Directors while assisting with the professional staffing process and preparing for freelance work. He also assisted General Manager Brett Veach in coordinating the NFL Draft and overseeing the team’s suburban scouts. Poland was instrumental in helping the Chiefs pitch top leads like All-Pros Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. This past season, the captains took second place in the NFL with six Pro Bowl picks in Mahomes, Kelce, Tyreek Hill, Orlando Brown, Chris Jones and Tyrann Mathieu and came out on top in the NFL with seven picks in 2020 In total since 2009, the Captains have had 69 Pro Bowl selections with 28 different players. “
The Poles also played football at university. He was an offensive player for the Boston College Eagles from 2004-2007, so he has covered the likes of Quinton Porter, Chris Crane and future NFL star Matt Ryan.
