Battlefield 2042 is the second best-selling product of the series after Battlefield 3

Despite the backlash from players, Battlefield 2042 seems to be doing very well in its first week of sales.

If you only consider the negative fan reaction to Battlefield 2042 into your account, you’d be forgiven for thinking the game failed miserably. But if the projected sales figures are flat, the game is far from a financial failure for EA.

According to insider Tom Henderson, who is known for sharing accurate information about Battlefield 2042, the game sold 4.23 million units in its first week, outperforming many of its predecessors, including Battlefield 1 and Battlefield 4.

Henderson did not give any figures on Battlefield 5 but EA itself claims that Battlefield 2042 has sold more within the same timeframe and there is currently nothing to suggest that is not true.

However, Battlefield 2042 didn’t do as well as Battlefield 3, which Henderson said sold 4.68 million units in its first week of launch in 2011 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Henderson suggests that this information has been shared internally at EA but that EA’s perception of these sales figures remains unclear.

Recently, it shared its plans for further development Expansion of the entire Battlefield franchise with more games to come, but those plans could have been made before Battlefield 2042 was released.

While its first week may have been great, it’s entirely possible that sales have been steadily declining since then thanks to word of mouth. But arguably the more important statistic is player retention. Even if a lot of people bought it, it doesn’t matter if no one is still playing it.

It is impossible to know how many people are playing Battlefield 2042 on the console. Based on Steam chartHowever, there has been a significant drop in the number of PC players. In the past 30 days, the maximum number of players has decreased by just over 10%.

DICE developer promised to improve the game with the next updates, so only time will tell whether Battlefield 2042 will reach the point of attracting new players and/or winning back the detractors.

Battlefield 2042 is available now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
