Batgirl: Warner Bros Discovery CEO Explains Why It Was Canceled

Warner Bros has explained why it was cancelled bat girl‘s film release.

The film studio came under fire this week after it was revealed it was shelving the film despite the $90million (£73.7million) filming having wrapped earlier this year.

Lerslie Grace, who played the lead role of Barbara Gordon, and the film’s directors, bad boys for life Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah expressed their shock at the news in respective statements.

There have been several rumors surrounding Warner Bros’ decision. A spokesman said at the time: “The decision not to publish bat girl reflects the strategic shift in our leadership towards the DC Universe and HBO Max.”

“Leslie Grace is an incredibly talented actress and this decision does not reflect her achievement.”

During Warner Bros Discovery’s second-quarter earnings conference call on Thursday (Aug. diversity reports that CEO David Zaslav has elaborated on why bat girl was cancelled.

“We’re not going to start a movie until it’s done,” Zaslav said, adding, “We’re not going to start a movie to make a quarter and we’re not going to put a movie out if we don’t believe in it.”

Zaslav reiterated Warner Bros’ plans to hire a team of people tasked with putting together a “10-year DC-only plan” in hopes of emulating Marvel Studios’ success.

“These are brands that are known all over the world,” he said of characters like Batman and Wonder Woman. “And as part of that, we will focus on quality. DC is something we think we could improve and that’s what we’re focusing on now.”

Zaslav’s comments vividly confirm thisThe New York Post‘s claims that bat girl was scrapped after being declared “unredeemable” following negative test screenings.

Batgirl was canceled even though filming had wrapped

In addition, it confirms The wrap‘s report that Zaslav felt bat girl which was slated for a theatrical release, although filmed for HBO Max, wasn’t the cinematic event film they would want their DC movies to be.

Michael Keaton was set to reprise the role of Bruce Wayne in the film after playing the role in Tim Burton’s Batman and Batman returnsrespectively.

However, it appears to be the role he filmed for the studio The Lightning will see the light of day despite the many controversies surrounding its leading actor Erza Miller; Zaslav broke Warner Bros’ silence on the film’s release plans during the conference call.
