Avatar: James Cameron says he can’t direct movies 4 and 5 himself

James Cameron has said he may not direct the fourth and fifth Avatar films himself.

The first sequel to Cameron’s hit 2009 film titled Avatar: The Way of Waterwill be in cinemas later this year.

The majority avatar 3 was shot along with the second film between 2017 and 2020 along with some parts of the fourth film.

In a new interview with Richthe titanic The director admitted that given how long it took to make sci-fi movies, he considered passing the baton to another director.

“The Avatar films themselves are kind of all consuming,” Cameron said. “I’m also developing some other things that are exciting.

“I think at some point — I don’t know if that’s after three or four — I want to pass the baton to a director that I trust so I can do other stuff that I’m interested in too. Or maybe not. I do not know.”

The third Avatar film is currently scheduled for release in December 2024, with the next films following in December 2026 and 2028 respectively.

Avatar: The Way of Water Original cast members Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña return to the franchise, with the likes of Kate Winslet, Edie Falco, Michelle Yeoh and Vin Diesel.

Sigourney Weaver will also be there again avatar 2although her character died in the first film.

On Monday (July 4th) it was announced which new character this is extraterrestrial star would play, to which fans reacted with shock.

Avatar: The Way of Water hits theaters on December 16th.
