Austin Butler chokes during Saturday Night Live’s dedication to his late mother

Austin Butler had an emotional moment Saturday night live as he remembered his late mother.

The actor, who received critical acclaim earlier this year for his portrayal of Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s biopic, hosted the sketch show on Saturday (December 17).

During his opening monologue, he told the audience about the importance of hosting the show he watched with his mother as a child.

He said: “I love my mother. Some of my favorite childhood memories are of her and I watching SNL together.

“And even though I had this crippling shyness, I would do anything to make my mother laugh when I was with her. I would make funny faces and voices.”

Butler then conducted an impression of Lord of the rings Character, Gollum, who drew laughter and applause from the studio audience.

“Being silly with her ripped me out of my shell and is at the core of what got me into acting,” he continued, speaking of his mother.

Butler added: “My mum is no longer with us but I’ve been thinking about her a lot this week and just imagining how proud she would be that her son used to not be able to order food for me at a restaurant that’s on this stage.” he now.”

The 31-year-old actor’s mother, Lori Butler, died of cancer in 2014.

Clearly touched by emotion, Butler exhaled and wiped his eyes as the audience cheered him on.

He then rounded out his tribute by dedicating his upcoming comedic moments to his mother.

“Anytime you see me make a funny voice or a funny face, that’s for you mom,” he remarked, pointing up.
