Atlanta police shoot dead man at steakhouse

Atlanta police fatally shot a man after he opened fire and punched a security guard at a Brazilian steakhouse on Wednesday, authorities said.
The unidentified man was shot dead by police after pulling a gun and firing a round at the Fogo de Chão police station, Deputy Police Chief Charles Hampton said on Wednesday.
Police officers arrived at the restaurant around 7pm after being called for an “unruly customer”.
The man refused to leave the store and the encounter became physical. One officer used his taser, which had a “negative impact on the subject,” Hampton said.
Then he was attacked by the security guard.
“While he was grabbing the subject, the subject was able to retrieve his gun, the suspect’s gun, and fire a shot at the guard. At that point, one of our officers used his firearm and fatally injured the subject,” Hampton said.
The security guard was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition, police said. According to the police, no other people were injured.

“There were a lot of people in the restaurant, but our officers did a great job isolating the subject at the front of the store where no diners were at risk,” Hampton said.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will take over the investigation into the incident.
Hampton could only describe the deceased as a grown man.
