Atascocita residents wipe out neighborhoods of racist, anti-Semitic leaflets found in driveways

ATASCOCITA, Texas (KTRK) – Two Atascocita subdivisions found dozens of racist leaflets in residents’ driveways on Sunday forcing two mothers to take action and clean up hundreds of leaflets.

Stacie Brady said around 11:51 p.m. Saturday, surveillance video from her home showed a vehicle with someone throwing a plastic bag with rocks and a piece of paper inside. The leaflet had anti-Semitic and racist words on it.

Brady said she spent three hours going from driveway to driveway, picking up plastic bags.

“When we left to get something to eat, we saw more of it,” Brady said. “We don’t want someone to wake up in the morning.

Brady said she picked up hundreds of flyers. In the adjoining subdivision, Atascocita South, numerous leaflets were found in residents’ driveways.

Johanna Odell said she has lived in the area for 17 years and was horrified when she found the flyer in her driveway on Sunday morning.

“I didn’t even look at the rest. I was so upset,” Odell said. “I looked around and saw identical bags lying in my neighbor’s driveway, so I went around and started picking them up because I didn’t want my neighbor to wake up to find this rubbish in our neighborhood, you know, this is disgusting. nasty.”

Odell has a trash bag full of flyers she finds. Other neighbors said they had contacted Harris County’s Constable Precinct 4 regarding the racist flyers, but it was not clear if a formal report of the incident had been filed.

“Teaching love and peace instead of hate,” says Odell. “I can’t believe we’re still dealing with this in 2022 and we wanted to send a message to the people who did this. It won’t be tolerated here. We won’t have it. Don’t come here. We don’t need hatred. We just want peace and love.”

Mark Toubin, Southwest Regional Manager of Anti-Defamation League told ABC13 that there were reports of white supremacist propaganda leaflets in the southwest area including the Harris County area and the Bexar County area almost every weekend.

“First, call law enforcement,” Toubin said. “It’s not clear whether it’s against the law to disseminate these really dirty materials, but it’s certainly important to call law enforcement and have them investigate and determine if Is that true, if they can identify the culprit?”

Toubin said ADL is also monitoring organizations that are distributing these flyers in residential areas in the area. You can report any issues on ADL website.

“We understand that people who found this in their yard or driveway have expressed outrage and frustration,” Toubin said. “However, we welcome those in Atascocita and elsewhere who realize that these are hate messages and that they are wrong. They are designed to bring attention to these organizations and because So we appreciate when people find them, not only rejecting their flyers and messages, but rejecting hate.”
