At least 2 dead in NJ crash after police chase

At least two people were killed in a crash in New Jersey that followed a police pursuit early Tuesday, prosecutors and a report said.

The accident – which happened around 5 a.m. near Ridgewood and Bloomfield avenues in Glen Ridge – ended with a mangled car that wrapped itself around a tree in the woods, NBC 4 New York reported.

The incident “involved a police pursuit that resulted in deaths,” according to the Essex County Attorney’s Office, adding that the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office is handling the investigation.

A source close to the investigation told NBC the fatal incident happened after police received a report of an armed robbery.

The Attorney General’s Office did not immediately respond to a request for information, and no further information was available later that morning.
