Aston Villa are in contention with Everton for top target Tammy Abraham as Roma lowered price to £35m

Aston Villa have now identified Tammy Abraham as their top target, while Roma will lower their asking price. But boss Unai Emery needs to take on Everton to secure the striker’s transfer.
That’s according to Calciomercato, which reports that Aston Villa has etched Abraham’s name on their shopping list. The Birmingham native are huge admirers of the Roma star and have been monitoring his situation with the Stadio Olimpico team for several months.
A handful of rival Premier League sides have also included Abraham in their shortlist, with Roma warming in farewell. The forward dropped from an absolutely crucial place in Jose Mourinho’s plans. Clubs are now sensing an opportunity to complement the 25-year-old’s services.
Roma lower their asking price for Abraham, Aston Villa’s top transfer target
Abraham is very fond of Roma and considers Rome his second home after two seasons with the Giallorossi. But the former Chelsea forward could be on the way out after sporting director Tiago Pinto admitted his performance so far this season hasn’t lived up to their expectations.
Now Roma would consider selling Abraham for offers starting at €40m (£35m) with Aston Villa intending to target his transfer. The Serie A side have slashed millions from their price tag as the England international, with 11 caps, has scored just seven goals in 37 games so far this season.
Everton and Manchester United are also considering signing the striker
Recent reports from iNews had claimed Roma were asking £67m for Abraham, while Aston Villa and Everton were targeting his transfer. It’s the value of Chelsea’s buyback clause, which is active from this summer. Manchester United have also scouted the striker regularly.
But Abraham has scored just six goals in 26 Serie A games this season, having struck 17 of 37 last season, forcing Roma to reconsider their asking price. So much so that a £35m exit would give the Giallorossi barely a profit on the £34m they paid Chelsea in 2021.
Aston Villa know what Abraham can offer having secured his loan transfer from Chelsea in 2018/19. The Blues product also captivated Jack Grealish as he scored 26 goals in 40 games to guide the Villans to promotion. He scored 25 in 37 regular-season league games.
“Incredible,” Grealish claimed on Instagram in 2020 via Birmingham Live. “[I] couldn’t believe how good he was with the ball for his size. [I] loved playing with him.”
