Chess grandmaster Hikaru ‘GMHikaru’ Nakamura was hit with a three-day Twitch ban on March 22 after deciding to watch the chess match from Dr. Disrespect to Dr. to look at Lupo.

dr Disrespect was infamously banned from the platform in June 2020 – something that prompted the duo to take Twitch to court. While it’s still unclear why Doc was banned, his lawsuit was settled with the site in March 2022 – something that confused many streamers.

With the court battle behind him, many, including GMHikaru, mistakenly felt they could interact with Doc’s content on Twitch, and after the chess star was banned, Asmongold spoke out in his defense.

Asmongold criticizes Twitch’s rules regarding Dr. Disrespect

In response to Hikaru revealing why he was banned, Asmongold spoke up and called for more clarity from Twitch.

“That seems strange considering dozens of streamers (myself included) have both seen the Ice Posideon NFT cheating controversy videos and reacted to Doc’s studio drama regarding NFTs,” he said, referring to another permanently banned streamer.

As Dexerto reported, Asmongold stood by Dr. Disrespect, very critical of Midnight Society for incorporating NFTs into the title, but had no consequences for the discussion of it on Twitch.

“The rules are clearly not black and white and 3 days for not understanding an unspoken nuance seems unfair,” he added.

Twitch viewers discuss Hikaru ban

However there some pointed this out, Hikaru watched Doc play chess during his stream, which is different than simply discussing them or their projects. Twitch Community Guidelines Status: “Using your channel to knowingly introduce or promote a suspended user is prohibited.”

However, others still agreed with the award-winning MMO streamer’s point of view, accusing the Amazon-owned platform of not being consistent in how it deals with creators and bans.

Whether this will result in a change in how Twitch enforces this rule remains to be seen, but the incident saddened Doc enough that he decided to send Hikaru a bottle of Black Steel Bourbon.

In any case, this ban should remind streamers that watching Dr. Disrespect is forbidden – a sad reality considering how popular and influential his content is. Asmongold Calls Twitch About “Unfair” GMHikaru Ban For Watching Dr Disrespect
