TOKYO (AP) – Asian shares were mixed amid nervous trading amid worries about the latest coronavirus variant. The Japanese benchmark changed after the open and was higher in morning trading. Shares soared in South Korea, while falling in Australia. Hong Kong shares rose, while in Shanghai was little changed. Wall Street’s losses deepened after the head of the Federal Reserve said it would consider stopping financial market support sooner than expected. The discovery of the omicron variant in Japan, as well as Brazil, is raising concerns that further measures to contain the infection could hurt economic activity and tourism.
