Ashley Banjo spoke about the backlash Diversity faced following their BLM routine on Britain’s Got Talent, saying he hadn’t left his house for weeks due to the reaction.

Drama troupe perform an emotional dance on last year’s ITV series, inspired by the death of George Floyd in America.

While many people praised the performance, they were met with a huge wave Ofcom complaints – and Ashley has also revealed that he has received threats online.

When asked how it affected him in an interview with Radio Times, he replied: ‘Lovely. It consumes every waking moment at a time. ‘

The 33-year-old said: ‘We’ve never had a negative reaction to anything really, and this is a huge response.’

Acknowledging that he hasn’t left his home for weeks, Ashley added: ‘I need some time to process what is happening. You don’t know how messages on Twitter or Instagram will translate in the real world. ‘

‘Everyone [were] said I would get hit on the head. Later, others raved that they “can’t wait to see it”. People have taken pictures of our studio and said, “There are some of us who don’t want you to train here anymore so hopefully we don’t run into you.”

More recently, Jim Davidson stormed out during a race discussion with Ashley Banjo, after criticizing Diversity’s BLM routine.

The comedian, 67, is among those who are targeting the group in a clear, shocking tone.

In a vile YouTube video, titled ‘Who Needs Diversity?’, Davidson called the group’s routine ‘ridiculous’ and ‘let loose’, suggesting they should instead make a video about ‘stealing’ errands’.

The performer invited Jim to join a debate about race and his previous comments, and filmed scenes for his ITV documentary Ashley Banjo: Britain in Black and White. However, things quickly turned tense as the Celebrity Big Brother star tried to defend her word.

Has he spoken to the comedian since then? ‘We don’t keep in touch. Jim has talked a lot about it online, but I don’t need to say anything more. I want to let the documentary speak. ‘

Ashley Banjo: Britain in Black and White is now available to stream on ITV Hub.
