Ashanti reveals the music producer once demanded sex in the shower

Ashanti appeared on The Breakfast Club radio show on Thursday morning and revealed that a music producer once held two of her tracks for ransom – and insisted she pay $40,000 a song or shower with him.

“I was in a crazy situation with a producer,” said the 42-year-old, without naming the person. “I think I might have talked about it once.”

The singer-songwriter explained that she worked with the anonymous music producer for several weeks after he offered to help produce the songs for free because she’s a “homie.”

“We made two albums together. He said, ‘Okay, I’m not going to burden you. You’re my homie,’” she recalled.

“So when it came time to put it on the album, he thought, ‘Let’s take a shower together.’ I thought he was joking,” she said. “He said, ‘No, I’m dead serious. Let’s go out, let’s take a shower together and then I’ll give you the records. If not, I need 40 racks per record.’”

The Post has reached out to Ashanti’s rep for comment.

The R&B artist said she couldn’t believe what happened at the time.

“I thought he was joking because we’ve been working together for a few weeks. But it turns out he meant business. I had to make some calls and things were taken care of,” she said.

“It was wild,” Ashanti admitted.

The musician was discovered as a teenager and recorded her first songs at 20, which were later released by Murder Inc. She was recognized as the princess of hip-hop soul and honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame that year.

Her mother, Tina Douglas, has been her manager throughout her career and also appeared on The Breakfast Club to corroborate Ashanti’s outrageous story.

Ashanti did not name the alleged bootleg producer, but hinted in her memoir that she would expose him in the future.

Last week, the singer appeared on Red Table Talk with her mother and sister Kenashia, who was a victim of domestic violence, and spoke about the “darkest time of her life.”

“As an older sister trying to protect my younger sister,” Ashanti said, “nobody gets a book on how to handle it.”
