Ash Ketchum’s English voice actress Sarah Natochenny has said goodbye to the role after it was announced that Ash and Pikachu would begin their final chapter in the series Pokemon Anime series. The Pokemon Company announced today that the duo will be phasing out of the show, with two new protagonists leading the charge in a new series after the final episode of Ash and Pikachu aired in 2023.

Veronica Taylor provided the voice of Ash for eight seasons before Sarah Natochenny took over from season 9 through present. Her time recording the English voice lines for Ash spanned 17 years, and she clearly recognizes the impact the character has had on fans, judging from her statement in which she promised to “keep him.” [Ash] being there for all of us in any way I can.” Taylor is yet to comment on the news that Ash and Pikachu will no longer be the face of the Pokémon franchise.
Eventually, in Pokemon Ultimate Journeys: The Series, Ash won the Masters Eight tournament of the Pokemon World Coronation Series, making him the strongest trainer in the world. Though The Pokemon Company has promised a “future glimpse” for Ash and Pikachu, they also confirmed that an upcoming collection of episodes will act as the pair’s “final chapter.” Fan-favorite characters from across the 25 seasons will be featured, including Misty, Brock and other familiar faces.
