Arsenal legend wowed by Newcastle United star Alexander Isak

Arsenal legend Martin Keown has stated that if Alexander Isak were in his team he would believe they could do “special things” after the Newcastle United striker’s brace against Nottingham Forest on Friday night.

Eddie Howe’s side defeated a resilient Forest side looking to avoid the crash by scoring a composed and well-placed injury-time winner from the penalty spot

It was a monumental win for the Magpies as it keeps their hopes alive of securing Champions League football for next season.

Howe’s call to bench his regular number 9, Callum Wilson, and start Isak has proved crucial as that’s three goals in his last two starts and six points for the team.

Nonetheless, former Arsenal defender Martin Keown was full of praise for Newcastle’s club record, he told Football Focus.

“I think Isak is a player, if he was on my team he would start to make me believe that we can start doing special things,” Keown said. “Callum Wilson could sit on the bench. He had a minor injury.

“He (Isak) is a notch above everyone else. Really outstanding at the moment. He had some injury problems. But now he is in full force.”

At 23 and eight years younger than Callum Wilson, it’s time for Isak to make that center forward spot his own this season and into the following.

Both Newcastle strikers have had their injury woes which hasn’t helped their cause, their progress or the club’s attempts to really continue.

He’s just walked through the doors with Isak, so he may need to get through that first season in England’s top flight before he can really drive next season.

But this has been a constant concern for Wilson so it will be interesting to see if Eddie Howe brings in another striker during the upcoming summer transfer window.
