Arsenal could be close to signing today’s Vieira and Gilberto – Our View

Arsenal currently have one of the best midfield pairings in England in Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey but numerous reports suggest two new Emirates midfielders could soon be walking through the door.
In fact, Arsenal have bid £60million for Moises Caicedo in recent days, according to The Athletic, while The Times reports that Declan Rice is their top midfield target for the summer.
Now there is still a long way to go before either of these deals is completed but there is reason to believe these two together could be great for Arsenal.
In fact, we’d go so far as to say they could be the modern equivalent of Patrick Vieira and Gilberto Silva.
Vieira and Silva were the heartbeat of the Arsenal team that won the Premier League and FA Cup twice in the early 2000s. They were famous for their physicality and defensive work, but also for their ability to control the tempo of the game with their passes.
They were the perfect balance, with Vieira providing the energy and tenacity and Silva providing the calm as “The Invisible Wall” as he was known.
It’s been a long time since Arsenal had a midfield pair as good as Vieira and Silva. But in Caicedo and Rice they would have the potential to recreate this dynamic duo.
Rice has the energy and drive that many remember Vieira. In fact, Rice has admitted to studying Vieira’s game in the past. While Caicedo has the composure and reach that Silva possessed.
They both have the ability to dictate the game and they both have the tactical acumen to work brilliantly together.
They would be the perfect pair for Arsenal and would give them the solidity in midfield they had been lacking for so long prior to this season.
This is a pairing that could keep Arsenal at the top of English football for a long time to come.
