Arrested in a Main Street murder

BUFFALO, NY (WIVB) — An arrest has been made in connection with the murder of a Buffalo woman, the Buffalo Police Department said.

At around 3:00 pm on August 7, police responded to the scene of a Main Street apartment complex and received reports of an injured and unresponsive woman. The woman, 37-year-old Jena Macdiarmid, was pronounced dead at the scene and her cause of death was ruled homicide.

Police said they immediately launched an investigation and identified 29-year-old Savon Stewart as a suspect in the murder.

Stewart, who is of no fixed address, was taken into custody Thursday.

The Erie County District Attorney’s Office announced Friday that Stewart was charged with second-degree murder, an AI category felony, Friday morning. He faces a maximum of 25 years to life imprisonment.

The prosecutor’s office said Stewart was charged with “willful causation.” [Macdiarmid’s] Death by beating and stabbing the victim.”

Police believe the murder was a domestic incident.
