Arrest after woman shot in Durham: Police

DURHAM, NC (WNCN) — An arrest was made after a woman was shot dead early Monday at an apartment complex off Interstate-40 in Durham, police said.

At approximately 7:45 a.m., Durham Police responded to a shoot-down call from an apartment complex in the 5100 block of Old Chapel Hill Road, which is near the I-40, 15-501 interchange.

Police found a woman with a gunshot wound.

Durham Police did not elaborate on her injuries other than that they were considered non-life threatening.

Dijon Preston McGirt, 32, of Durham, was arrested after a brief chase and crash, police said.

McGirt is charged with shooting into an occupied apartment, breaking and entering with intent to terrorize, assaulting with a deadly weapon causing serious injury, felony escaping to avoid arrest, reckless driving and resisting delay and obstruction to have done. McGirt is currently in the Durham County Jail without bond.
