A controversy is brewing over the youngest Apex Legends Season 14 Horizon nerf. Respawn had already revealed in the latest patch notes for the season that their Ultimate Black Hole was easier to destroy, but then the developer updated the notes with another nerf. Now the gravity-sucking ult can be destroyed by friendly fire, which has garnered a notable amount of negative reaction from the Apex community.

that’s literally the whole point of their Ultimate

About seven hours after the release of the Season 14 patch notes, Respawn revealed another surprise penalty to Horizon’s ultimate through the tweet posted above. It’s unclear why this wasn’t included in the original patch notes post. Respawn thought it was important enough to make a post about it. This nerf is in addition to adjustments to the hitbox for NEWT, which forms the center of the black hole, to make its destruction more reliable. In addition, NEWT takes 50% more damage from explosives. All in all, it’s understandable why some main players of Horizon are upset.
Some fans are sympathetic to the change, as a main way Horizons Ult has been used for heavy damage is for party members to throw grenades into the black hole, dealing massive AoE damage to any enemy in its grasp. They agree that this combination can end games if a team knows what they’re doing.
On the other hand, it’s easy to miss with the ult, and enemy players can dodge the black hole by effectively dodging. Others on the Apex Legends Reddit note that NEWT was already easy to destroy and throwing grenades into the singularity is one of the only consistent ways to damage enemies trapped inside, as shooting them isn’t the best idea, while they twirl around. With these nerfs, we could see Horizon drop quite a bit in future tier lists.
Also, Apex Legends has a new Hunted Battle Pass that introduces the Fortune Hunter Reactive Triple Take, and the Splatoon 3 Nintendo Direct will stream live tomorrow.
