KAMPALA, Uganda (AP) – Climate activist Vanessa Nakate spoke to the Associated Press and reflected on the 2021 tornado and what she and other young activists plan for next year. She expressed disappointment over the outcome of the UN climate talks in Scotland, saying she “expects leaders to stand up for the people, rise for the planet.” Instead, the world may be on a path to warming that would be a “death sentence” for many communities, particularly in Africa. The continent’s 1.3 billion people contribute the least to global emissions but suffer the most. That pain has already begun.
