AOC calls Kevin McCarthy “weak” and supports Gaetz’s attempt to get him out

On Sunday, Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., announced his plan to oust House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, and in a rare opportunity for agreement, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is supporting it Call.
During an appearance on “State of the nation“This weekend, AOC was asked to comment on the speaker’s recent performance and she gave a less than positive review.
“It’s not up to the Democrats to save the Republicans. Especially not to herself,” she said, adding that McCarthy didn’t have her voice at all.
When asked specifically whether she would vote to resign, she quickly replied, “Absolutely,” adding that she thought McCarthy was a “very weak speaker.”
“He has clearly lost control of his faction,” she continued, making her point clear.
In his own interview on Sunday, McCarthy appeared on “Face the Nation” and seemed to shrug it all off. “I will survive,” he said, calling Gaetz’s challenge “personal.”
“He’s more interested in getting TV interviews,” he added. “Let’s deal with this. Let’s start governing. If he’s upset because he tried to force us to shut down and I made sure the government didn’t shut down, then let’s talk about it.”
