Anna Sorokin Deported: Convicted con artist who inspired Netflix series ‘Inventing Anna’ reportedly losing immigration battle

Sorokin’s story is portrayed in the Netflix show Inventing Anna.
Sorokin was convicted of eight counts of theft in May 2019 after posing as a fake German heiress and defrauding wealthy New Yorkers out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Prosecutors argued she never had family fortune and was originally from Russia.

She served nearly four years in prison and has since been held by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement in custody awaiting deportation, according to a lawsuit she has filed against ICE.
She claims the poor treatment at ICE facilities gave her COVID-19 and she was not allowed to get a COVID booster shot.
Prosecutors claimed she told people she was sitting on a $67 million trust fund but stole $275,000 from New York banks.
“Rumors are circulating today and I hadn’t heard from her this afternoon, which is our standard practice,” Manny Arora, an attorney representing Sorokin, told ABC News Monday night.
Sorokin has long denied claiming she was an heiress, telling ABC’s Deborah Roberts in an interview that she “always knew” she couldn’t afford a lavish lifestyle.
“I want to show the world that I’m not this stupid, greedy person they make me out to be.”
She said she simply “made up” the name Delvey.
