Anderson Aldrich, mother caught on video using racial slurs at airport

A disturbing video has surfaced of suspected LGBTQ nightclub shooter Anderson Lee Aldrich of Colorado and his mother spewing racial slurs at fellow passengers after a flight to Denver in July.

Frontier Airlines passenger Maria Martinez took cell phone footage of Aldrich and her mother Laura Voepel during the heated confrontation at the terminal on July 31, KDVR reported.

The clip posted by the channel begins with Martinez asking Voepel about a racial slur against Mexicans.

“What makes me an Ab–r?” she is heard asking.

“Keep your mouth shut!” Voepel snaps back.

“What makes me an Ab–r?” Martinez asks again.

As she continues to follow the pair, a person believed to be Aldrich tells her, “You keep following me and I’ll get you down.”

Although the obese individual wore a mask, Martinez and her daughter Kayla Martinez said they now recognize the individual as the non-binary suspect in the deadly mass shooting at Club Q in Colorado Springs.

Tanya De La O, a friend who was traveling with the Martinezes that day, claimed Voepel began using racist language as soon as they landed.

“I was having trouble getting my luggage down (from the overhead locker) and all of a sudden I hear this woman saying, ‘Hurry up, you b—r!’ And then I turned around and said, ‘Excuse me?'” she told KDPR.

She told the outlet that a black man tried to intervene to de-escalate the situation, but that Aldrich hurled a racial slur at him.

“He also told him to shut up, you f—n—’,” De La O told the station.

De La O said she also recalls a startling comment Aldrich made as he got off the plane.

Martinez said a black man tried to intervene to de-escalate the situation, but Aldrich threw him a racial slur.

“I wish I could shoot you all now,” she said, they murmured.

Martinez said Aldrich was “very hateful — just plain nasty.”

Kayla added, “Like just being in his presence, I could just feel the hate. He just seems to have hatred deep in his heart.”

Maria said her “boyfriend was like, we won’t be surprised, like, if he’s a mass shooter. And it was scary to think that.”

De La O said she had no doubt Aldrich picked up on her mother’s hateful behavior.

“I can see where he got it from. She was the one who started the racial slur… She was obnoxious. The whole flight,” she told KDVR.

“She literally had the crew remove a young lady with her baby who was sitting behind her because she (Voepel) was complaining about the baby — and the plane hadn’t even taken off,” De La O added.

Maria said she tried to complain to the cabin crew but told her to call a customer service representative, who later told her to put the complaint in writing.

“We had a conflict with a mass shooter that is very scary and traumatic. Yes, it’s surreal,” she told KDVR.

Aldrich has not been formally charged but could face murder and hate crime for allegedly killing five people and injuring 17 others at Club Q.

On Wednesday, the suspect appeared in court dazed, injured and bloodied – apparently as a result of the actions of the two people who held him down until police arrived.
