Following his victorious courtroom showdown with ex-wife Amber Heard, Johnny Depp is planning an official return to showbiz with a new album starring guitar god Jeff Beck.
The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star has already joined the ‘Hi Ho Silver Lining’ rocker on a string of high-profile gigs in the UK – even missing out on a court ruling that he was defamed by his ex.
The hardworking dork, 58, didn’t mention his $15m win during his last Gateshead appearance – but pal Beck was referring to it, according to the BBC, who quoted him as saying: “What a result.”
The guitar maestro then revealed what his Hollywood star pal would do next – teasing the crowd about the forthcoming album and gushed about their friendship.
“I met this guy five years ago and we’ve never stopped laughing since then,” Beck told the crowd, according to the BBC.
“We actually made an album. I don’t know how it happened. It will be out in July,” he said.
Back in April, the two released their first single as a duo, a cover of John Lennon’s “Isolation,” and called each other “musical soulmates.”
At the time, Beck explained that they’ve “been working on music together for a while.”
“You’ll be hearing more from Johnny and I shortly,” the former Yardbird teased fans at the time.
Depp has increasingly left Hollywood to focus on music – he calls it his first love – most famously in the Hollywood Vampires, starring Aerosmith’s Alice Cooper and Joe Perry.
He was clearly “enjoying” Thursday’s show, Beck fan James Pallister, 32, told the BBC.
“He looked really happy. He seemed to be in a great place,” he said. “The crowd got behind him and I think he gave people what they wanted to see.”
Miya Wright, 28, told the broadcaster she only got tickets to the show after seeing the actor was in town and likely to appear.
“I’ve been a huge fan of his since I was about 10 years old,” she said. “And that’s just amazing that he’s here.”
However, not all fans of the show were so impressed.
“Jeff Beck was excellent,” Nick Rowe, 64, told the BBC.
“What spoiled the whole night was the talentless Mr. Depp. He was once like a drunken bar singer. I don’t know what Jeff Beck is thinking,” he said of the legendary rocker, considered by many to be one of the greatest guitarists of all time.
Seven Virginia jurors Wednesday ruled in Depp’s favor on all three of his allegations related to a Washington Post op-ed Heard wrote about him becoming a “public figure representing domestic violence” after the couple’s split.
The verdict ended a six-week trial full of abuse allegations on both sides.
