Americans don’t think Biden has done enough against Russia: poll

More than half of Americans believe President Biden didn’t take strong enough action against Moscow for invading Ukraine and would support a no-fly zone over the war-torn nation, a poll showed on Sunday.
Americans – 69 percent – believe Russia will attack more European countries after Ukraine, while 31 percent believe it will stop with Ukraine CBS News/YouGov poll found.
If Russia attacks another NATO country, 72 percent of Americans support a US military response, while 27 percent oppose it, the poll found.
About 52 percent of the 2,088 adults polled for the survey between March 8 and 11 said Biden didn’t act hard enough against Russia.
36 percent say his actions are about right, and 12 percent think they were too much.
When asked about the establishment of a no-fly zone over Ukraine, 59 percent said they would support it, while 41 percent opposed it.
But 62 percent oppose a no-fly zone if US forces attack Russian troops and Russia considers it an act of war. Even then, 58 percent would still support the zone.

In the group that says Biden didn’t respond strongly enough, 65 percent support even tougher economic sanctions, 61 percent believe the US should send more weapons and supplies to Ukraine, and 21 percent think the US should use direct military action against Russia proceed.
The majority of respondents said they support sanctions on Russian oil even if it means US gas prices soar.
About 78 percent said they fear the invasion could embroil NATO in a European war and lead to a global recession, while 76 percent fear a cyber attack on the US and 72 percent said it would lead to a US-US war Russia could lead.

And while Biden’s approval rating for his handling of the crisis has risen 5 percentage points to 46 percent since last week: 63 percent said his actions made them nervous; 54 percent unsure; 33 percent are confident and 32 percent sure.
A whopping 77 percent of Americans say they support sanctions on Russian oil and gas, while 23 percent oppose it.
When asked if they would continue to support the penalties even if they had to pay more at the pump, 63 percent said they would, while 36 percent said they would not.

Among those who would stick with sanctions in the face of higher gas prices, 82 percent say they would do so to help Ukraine and punish Russia, 34 percent say it’s their patriotic duty, and 26 percent say they wouldn’t drive a lot, and 19 percent admit they can afford to pay higher prices.
Broken down by political party, 84 percent of Democrats support the sanctions, as do 76 percent of Republicans and independents.
And while Americans say they will comply with sanctions even if prices rise above the current average price of $4.35 for a gallon of gasoline, the statement said AAAa majority say the US should increase domestic oil production.

If the price at the pump continues to rise, 63 percent said they would support US oil and gas production, 49 percent said the US should expand its use of renewable energy sources, and 33 percent would agree to use more oil from the US Middle East to import East or South America.

It has an error rate of plus or minus 2.6 percentage points.
