American Idol’s Caleb Kennedy ‘on suicide watch’ in jail after DUI arrest for ‘running over and killing man in driveway’

AMERICAN Idol star Caleb Kennedy is “on suicide watch” after his arrest for drunk driving in prison for “running over and killing a man in his driveway,” his attorney exclusively told The Sun.

17-year-old Caleb had his third court hearing today in Spartanburg, South Carolina, when a circuit court judge declined to consider bail.

The American Idol star tested positive for marijuana, although the full toxicology report could take up to two more months to show the remaining results.

If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in prison and a $25,000 fine.

Caleb is currently being held without bail at the Spartanburg Detention Center on a charge of the DUI felony resulting in death.

His attorney, Ryan Beasley, exclusively told The Sun that the ruling was “very frustrating” because the “toxicology report could take up to six months due to the backlog.”

Ryan continued, “Caleb is a minor with no criminal record and, by all accounts, had an adverse reaction to a prescribed drug in the middle of the day on his way to see his girlfriend.”

Caleb’s lawyer continued to defend him, telling The Sun: “He wasn’t out late at night partying, drinking and running from the police. Caleb has done nothing but express remorse and sorrow for the Parris family every time I speak to him.

“In fact, every time I meet with Caleb, I insist that we say a prayer for the Parris family.”

Regarding Caleb’s prison conditions, Ryan commented, “Unfortunately, Caleb is now in prison on suicide watch and he’s just a 17-year-old minor with no criminal record whatsoever.”

Ryan concluded, “He continues to show the same symptoms of fainting and dizziness in prison that he was showing at the time of the accident.”

Caleb’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 14th.

CRASH HORROR

Caleb’s crash victim reportedly had “broken legs and couldn’t breathe” after the singer ran him over at around 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 8.

Victim Larry Parris’ daughter called 911 to report that her father had been hit by a car before it crashed into his work building.

Before the crash, Caleb was meeting up with a friend at a Walmart, where he took a hit from a vape pen, local outlets reported.

He later eventually drove down a 175-foot private driveway occupied by only two houses.

Larry was outside and was pushed into the building on impact during the shocking crash.

According to details from the 911 call obtained by The Sun, Larry’s daughter reported that “the truck just went off the road and drove through her father’s store”.

The report said she was “hysterical and said her father was working when the truck drove through”.

The call continued: “The man says he can’t breathe and both legs appear to be broken, he’s holding his shoulder.”

The car was “not on him” even though the vehicle “completely ran him over.”

The father of one child was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

COMMUNITY MOURNS

A Mexican restaurant in Spartanburg where Larry was a regular published a tribute in his memory as the community mourns.

They posted a photo of him smiling and enjoying an afternoon in a backyard.

The post was captioned: “Tonight we reach out to the Larry Parris family.

“We cannot express how much we appreciated his smile and great attitude on every visit.”

They continued, “Even though his life was cut short, he impacted all of us here. Rest in peace!”

IDOL’S PROBLEMS

Caleb was a contestant on American Idol in 2020 but was fired mid-season after video surfaced of him posing with a friend in a Ku Klux Klan-style white hood.

While his mother, Anita Guy, explained that the footage was from when her son was 12, the singer told his social media followers that the video “shows actions that shouldn’t be done that way.”

The former fan favorite later admitted he wasn’t prepared for life in the spotlight.

While appearing on American Idol, he told the Spartanburg Herald Journal, “You think it’s all going to be fun, and a lot of it is, but it’s going to hit you in the face very quickly. I wasn’t ready for that.”

Caleb added, “There’s no way to emotionally prepare for Idol. Because no one is ready for it, no matter how you prepare.

“But I have no regrets and I loved it.”

The teenager went on to share how the experience had changed him.

“On Idol, that wasn’t me,” he revealed. “This world is so different.

“Now that I’m home, I’m trying to be myself, but I’m also scared of someone filming me going to the academy or going to Wal-Mart.”
