From the stage to the slammer.
American Idol winner Laine Hardy was behind bars on Friday after being charged with planting a listening device in his ex-girlfriend’s living room at Louisiana State University.
The 21-year-old country crooner was taken into custody after his former flame found the voice recorder in their campus accommodation earlier this month.
The student is not named in the booking document, released by the 19th Circuit Court in East Baton Rouge on Friday – but the report says she dated Hardy between November 2021 and February 2022.
The “Memorize You” singer has been notoriously private about his personal life and did not debut with a girlfriend during these dates.
The singing sensation has kept a low profile about his dating life since winning “American Idol” in 2019. However, he was linked to two different women during this time.
Hardy appears to have had a two-year affair with high school grad Gracie Lee, 19, before it officially ended last summer.
Meanwhile, in 2020, local outlets claimed the crooner was linked to LSU student and pageant queen Sydney Taylor, 20. The two both contracted COVID-19 after kissing each other.
Neither Taylor nor Lee are believed to be connected to the current criminal case. The Post has reached out to both women – and Hardy – for comment.
Gracie Lee appears to have been Hardy’s longest love, with the couple dating on and off for two years.
In June last year, Hardy took to Instagram and shared a series of photos with the brunette, suggesting they were back together after a brief hiatus.
“I just wanted to say that I’m very grateful to this woman here,” the “Memorize You” singer captioned his post, without explicitly naming her his girlfriend.
“She’s a Keeper, Laine, don’t let her go again. If you do, it will be a great loss that you will never get back,” warned one fan who appeared to have been following their relationship.
Meanwhile, Lee’s page has multiple photos with Hardy dating back to 2019.
In November of that year — just six months after Hardy took home the “American Idol” track — she posted a snap with the caption, “My darling.”
Three months later, on February 14, she shared a Valentine’s Day tribute in which she explained that she was in love with the singer.
Meanwhile, Hardy has appeared in a few other snaps of Lee before she stopped sharing photos of him last summer.
“Are you still together? There haven’t been any posts from them together lately so I’m wondering? A concerned fan posted publicly after the few shots dried up.
Meanwhile, Hardy appears to have enjoyed a fling with the stunning Sydney Taylor in the summer of 2020 — while seemingly taking a break with Lee.
A giddy Hardy took to his public Facebook on June 21, 2020 and shared a photo showing him getting cozy with the leggy blonde – who was crowned Miss Teen Louisiana 2020.
He returned to Facebook later that same day to announce that he had contracted COVID-19.
Two days later, Taylor — who studies mass communications at LSU — announced that she, too, had contracted the virus. An article in The Advocate at the time described Taylor as Hardy’s “girlfriend”.
It’s unclear when they split, but she now appears to be dating LSU baseball star Trey Shaffer.
On Friday morning, Hardy was taken into custody after being accused of leaving the listening device at his unnamed ex’s flat.
LSU spokesman Ernie Ballard told The Post in a statement, “Laine Reed Hardy (non-LSU student) was arrested by LSU police today and charged with violating 15:1303 – Wire interception and disclosure, electronic, or oral Communication. His arrest warrant has been filed with the court clerk.”
The singer is accused of leaving a listening device at his ex-girlfriend’s campus accommodation at Azalea Hall to “monitor their conversations” when they split after dating from November 2021 to February 2022.
According to the prison records, “The victim pointed out that last night while she was watching a movie with her roommate, [they] “Found what appeared to be a phone charger under the victim’s futon.” After googling the device, “she learned it was a VR-500 Voice Activated Recorder.”
Hardy didn’t respond to the Post’s requests for comment before surrendering to authorities this morning – but he spoke to his 737,000 followers on Facebook last night and said the LSUPD had “issued a warrant for my arrest based on allegations made against me”.
He did not specify what he was accused of, but noted that he was “fully cooperative” with the police as more than 12,000 of his fans posted reactions and messages of support.
Hardy’s booking document went on to say that in mid-February, “the victim … found a fake Instagram on the defendant’s phone, which he used to cover up that he illegally recorded her when he was away.”
The documents also indicate that Hardy “had information about the victim and her actions during the Christmas holidays that was not known to the defendant.” When the student “confronted” Hardy, “he admitted he left a ‘bug’ in her room and later disposed of it in his pond,” the report said.
After the victim discovered the device while still in her room, she turned it over to LSUPD, at which point authorities found audio of his “distinctive voice” and heard his name being repeated by other parties. On the penultimate tape, dated February 2, the “victim can be heard telling someone how she found out the defendant took her in” — but she “doesn’t know if the bug is still in her room.”
When contacted for comment on the allegations, Hardy’s reps told the Post they could not comment on the “pending investigation.”
However, his attorney, C. Frank Holthaus, confirmed that “Mr. Hardy received an arrest warrant [Thursday] and has been and will be fully cooperative with the Baton Rouge Police Department in this matter. Due to the public nature of Mr. Hardy’s profession, we request privacy at this time.”
