Amber Heard’s role in Aquaman was unaffected by Johnny Depp’s allegations, says Warner Bros

Amber Heard’s role as Mera in Aquaman 2 was unaffected by the allegations by her ex-husband Johnny Depp, according to a Warner Bros executive.

Depp’s team began its counterargument today (May 24) with a video testimony from Walter Hamada, who is in charge of DC-based films.

In Hamada’s testimony, he confirmed that Heard had an option deal with Warner Bros. to play the role of Mera in the film Aquaman Franchise.

According to Hamada, Heard’s role in the upcoming sequel was never reduced, instead Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom should always focus on the title character and his friend, with Heard’s character being secondary.

He said Heard’s involvement in the film was not affected by anything said by Depp or his attorney, Adam Waldman.

He also explained that due to ongoing discussions about recasting the role of Mera, there has been a delay in casting due to concerns over chemical issues between them aquaman Jason Momoa and Heard.

“They didn’t really have a lot of chemistry together,” Hamada said. “The reality is that in movies it’s not uncommon for two leads to have no chemistry.”

He added that chemistry could be made through “film magic and editing” and a “great score.”

“If you watch the film, they look like they have great chemistry. All I know is that it took a lot of effort in post-production to get there,” he said.

Hamada’s statement comes a day after Heard’s agent testified that Momoa was “adamant” about reprising her role in the upcoming sequel.

Heard previously testified that her role in aquaman 2 was cut significantly during her fight with Depp. Meanwhile, a petition calls for their removal from the Aquaman Sequel is on the cusp of reaching 4.5 million signatures.

Depp is suing Heard for $50m (£39.7m) for allegedly implying he abused her in a comment in 2018 The Washington Post, and reportedly preventing him from landing the celebrity Hollywood roles.

Heard is suing Depp for $100million (£79.4million), accusing him of organizing a “defamation campaign” against her and calling his lawsuit a continuation of “abuse and harassment”.
