He blames the Heard mentality for Johnny Depp’s downfall.
Following Wednesday’s explosive verdict in the Amber Heard-Johnny Depp trial, “Aquaman” actress’ former private investigator Paul Barresi has weighed in on the ex-flames’ relationship, alleging among other things that Heard used Depp to get ahead in Hollywood.
“Amber was, in a way, an opportunist on par with everyone else,” the 74-year-old Hollywood fixer told the Daily Mail after the defamation case, which saw Depp, 58, awarded more than $10 million — a decision that his ex appealed inserts.
According to the Daily Mail, Heard, 36, originally hired the private investigator to dig up dirt on the Pirates of the Caribbean star before her trial.
“When Amber hired me, she wanted proof that Johnny was a serial abuser for women,” said Barresi, who was previously recruited by another client to investigate unsubstantiated claims that Tom Cruise was having a gay affair.
The famed Sherlock Holmes then interviewed over 100 of Depp’s former associates – some of whom had worked with the actor on films dating back three decades – in an attempt to frame the actor.
But despite his meticulous detective work, the dirt digger was unable to “find another woman who said Johnny molested her,” and he was consequently fired by The Rum Diary star Heard.
Still, Barresi was so intrigued by the case that he decided to investigate Depp himself to exhume some of the celeb’s potential skeletons.
His subsequent dork dive, which included interviews with the “Donnie Brasco” actor’s friends. found the A-lister was frequently chased by so-called friends. These celebrity lampreys talked the Jack Sparrow actor into footing the bill for everything from her rent to her house payments, cars and even legal fees.
“Johnny was under siege by people sneaking into his domain,” Barresi claimed. “Once there, they would scratch his back with one hand while the other picked up the food.
“All the people around him have been searching for so many years,” he added.
Barresi claimed that one of the most outrageous leeches was his ex-wife Heard, who he said “apparently knew of his power in Hollywood and she usurped that power in hopes of advancing her career.”
Another perpetrator, according to PI, was none other than Depp’s childhood friend Isaac Baruch, who testified on the star’s behalf during the case. “He’s the worst of them all,” Barresi said. “He’s lived off Johnny his entire adult life.
“At the end of the day in Hollywood, it’s who you know who draws for you,” the Tinseltown detective continued. “Because for every role in a film, there are 2,000 people who are equally competent to fill that role.”
Barresi didn’t blame Heard and other opportunists entirely, however. He said that while Depp is what he calls “the king of entertainment,” his “passive attitude” also makes him an easy target for Huckster. Also problematic was the playwright’s turbulent childhood, during which he moved to Hollywood from a small town in Kentucky and was reportedly abused by his fugitive and abusive mother, Betty Sue Palmer Depp.
“He grew up to be a sensitive, fragile man,” Barresi claimed. “He didn’t have the role models to stand up for him.”
As a result, the movie star allegedly acted financially irresponsible, spending more than $2 million a month to support his lavish lifestyle — $100,000 of which was spent on drug addiction doctors, according to the Daily Mail — which eventually landed the actor in a financial quagmire. In return, the Golden Globe winner reportedly opened up about being fleeced by wolves in friends’ clothes.
“His ruin was partly his own fault,” claimed Barresi, who said he interviewed “so many people who said there were a lot of people who took advantage of Johnny.”
The PI posited that the “Nightmare on Elm Street” star may have even “felt guilty about making so much money and he feels like he has to take care of these people.” Depp was particularly prone to deception because of his drug habit, according to Barresi, suggesting it distracted him from the problems that were going on under his nose.
Barresi ultimately blamed Depp’s downfall on the “grabbers, these wannabes, these free riders” that surrounded the actor.
“They would sneak into Johnny’s life,” Barresi claimed. “They would milk him for everything he was worth — not so much materially or monetary, but emotionally.”
“He lived with that for decades,” he concluded.
His bombastic statements come after Depp was awarded more than $10 million in his defamation case on Wednesday. A jury in Fairfax, Virginia. Heard blamed for defaming 58-year-old Depp in a 2018 Washington Post op-ed, in which she described herself as a victim of domestic violence. The jury also found that Heard was defamed by one of Depp’s attorneys but was awarded only $2 million in damages.
However, experts say that it will be a while before the actress has to pay any money.
“Nobody will write any checks until the case is finally resolved — whether it’s an appeal or requests for a new trial, but there will be more litigation before we know who gets paid what,” said the former California judge and current criminal defense attorney Halim Dhanidina told The Post.
Meanwhile, the actress’ attorney, Elaine Bredehoft, confirmed that Heard would appeal after the jury found her liable for all of Depp’s claims against her – while he was found liable for only one of her counterclaims.
“She has some excellent reasons for doing so [appeal]Bredehoft told Today show co-host Savanah Guthrie.
“She was demonized here,” she added. “A number of things were admitted in this court that should not have been admitted, and the jury was confused.”
