Amber Heard explains why she thinks she was branded a ‘liar’ at Johnny Depp’s trial

Amber Heard has explained why she believes she was branded a ‘liar’ during Johnny Depp’s trial.
Heard is being sued by Depp for $50m (£40.1m) over allegations he abused her in 2018 Washington Post op ed. Though she didn’t specifically name him, Depp claims her allegations affected his ability to work.
The matter of Heard’s alleged charity donation of the divorce settlement she reached with Depp was brought to court on Monday (May 16).
In 2018 the Aquaman Star told the Dutch TV show RTL Late Night that she had paid half of her $7million (£5.6million) divorce settlement to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) charity.
But years after the charity said they would not yet receive the donation, Heard told the court she had “not yet been able to honor those commitments.”
Depp’s attorney asked if her announcement was because she wanted “praise,” “good press,” and “to appear publicly altruistic,” to which Heard replied, “That wasn’t my interest.”
At length, Heard said: “My interest is in my name – clearing my name. At the time, I was called a “liar” and my motives were questioned. I thought it was important to clear that up.”
She continued: “I wanted to make a statement to make sure there was no doubt. That I couldn’t be called those things just because Johnny was the bigger star and had more public reach.”
Amber Heard says she was “just tagged with these things for Johnny and more publicity reach.”

Elsewhere, Heard appeared to confirm rumors that her situation with Depp had affected her role on the show Aquaman Consequence.

“I fought really hard to stay in the movie,” she said, adding, “They didn’t want to put me in the movie.”
Those comments came after a petition to have Heard removed from the sequel gained traction online.
Heard previously condemned the campaign to have her removed from the film and denied that the outcome of the Depp defamation case had any impact on her own franchise.
“Paid rumors and paid social media campaigns don’t dictate [casting decisions] because they have no basis in reality,” Heard said in a statement. “Only the fans actually made it Aquaman and aquaman 2 happen. I look forward to getting started next year.”
Later in her testimony, she refuted Depp’s attorney’s claim that her ex-husband was the reason for her occupation Aquaman.
On Wednesday, May 18, former *NSYNC singer Lance Bass came under fire for poking fun at Heard’s emotional testimony in a viral TikTok video.
