Photos of the injured actress were shown to jurors in Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s bombshell libel trial on Monday – as she denied her ex-husband was at the heart of the case.
Heard’s attorneys in May 2016 showed multiple images of the actress with a red and swollen face from what she said was the troubled former couple’s latest fight.
“This is my face after Johnny threw a phone at it,” Heard, 36, said of the aftermath of the alleged brawl with Depp, 58.
The Aquaman actress also defended the 2018 essay she wrote for The Washington Post, in which she described herself as “a public figure who portrays domestic violence.”
“What, if anything, is wrong with that comment?” Attorney Elaine heard Bredehoft ask.
“Nothing,” Heard replied. “Every word is true.”
“It’s not about Johnny,” she continued. “The only one who thought it was about Johnny was Johnny. It’s about me It’s about what happened to me.”
Depp is suing his ex-wife for $50 million over the column not naming him. He claims it clearly relates to allegations of domestic violence Heard made when she filed for divorce in May 2016 after less than two years of marriage – and that it defamed him and damaged his career and reputation.

Under cross-examination, Depp’s lawyers confronted Heard with several photos taken by the couple after allegedly violent public affairs fights – showing them with no visible injuries.
A fresh-faced picture showed Heard alongside Depp on Spike TV’s Don Rickles: One Night Only special – the day after she claimed Depp may have broken his nose after the 2014 Met Gala.
“For the record, I don’t know if it broke,” Heard admitted when asked by Depp’s attorney, Camille Vasquez. “You should have seen how it looked under makeup.”
“Your nose doesn’t appear injured in any of these pictures?” asked the attorney.
“I wear makeup and makeup covers puffiness right?” Heard replied.
Other photos produced by Depp’s team included the couple attending the 2015 Tokyo premiere of his comedy film Mordecai, which followed an alleged fight, and stills from an appearance by Heard on The Late Late Show with James Corden”.
Heard claimed she had a split lip from a punch from Depp, which she covered in lipstick at the time.
Previously, during questioning by her own attorneys, Heard detailed her makeup routine for the jury and even held up a cover-up kit.
“I’m certainly not going to walk around LA with bruises on my face,” she said.
The latest from the Johnny Depp defamation trial:
The jury was also shown a now-infamous photo of Heard with what appeared to be bruises on her face — taken on the day she sought a restraining order against Depp in May 2016.
Heard got emotional on the stand as she recalled how photographers “just surrounded me as I walked out of this courthouse” and “screamed horrible things.”
Depp has accused Heard of drawing on a bruise with makeup that day, a claim she denies.
Heard explained why she decided to file for divorce this month, despite Depp’s assurances that he’s sober, that he’s sorry and that he’s “not the monster.”
“I knew if not [divorce him]I probably wouldn’t literally survive,” she said. “I was so scared.”
Depp’s attorneys got Heard to acknowledge that she never actually lived up to her promise to donate her $7 million divorce settlement to the American Civil Liberties Union and a California children’s hospital.
“I use ‘pledge’ and ‘donation’ interchangeably,” Heard testified.
“Not me,” Vasquez shot back.
