Amber Heard claims text messages to father are evidence of physical abuse at the hands of Johnny Depp

Amber Heard has claimed that text messages she sent to friends and family during her relationship with Johnny Depp are evidence of the physical abuse she suffered during their marriage.

In connection with an interview with date line‘s Savannah Guthrie — the full version of which aired tonight (June 17) — showed Heard’s legal team several messages to NBC reporters.

In a text message she allegedly sent to her therapist on December 16, 2015, Heard wrote, “Johnny hooked up with me tonight. I’m safe and with my support tonight, but I need real help. Can I come tomorrow. I called earlier because I thought I had a concussion and didn’t know if I should have called the police. But I have a nurse close by.”

Guthrie’s team was also shown a text message Heard allegedly sent to her father in 2014, around the same time Heard claims Depp kicked her on a plane. That incident was the subject of testimony in the couple’s defamation trial, which concluded earlier this month.

Heard’s message to her father reportedly reads, “I’m not fighting back. He literally kicked me and called me a [redacted] especially on the plane. It’s humiliating.”

Depp claims he didn’t attack Heard on a plane. The judge at the trial ruled the text messages inadmissible in court, Guthrie said.

Elsewhere in the interview, Heard claimed her therapist simultaneously took notes about the physical abuse she suffered in a relationship with Depp, which were also withheld from the jury.

“There’s a binder full of year-long notes from 2011, from the beginning of my relationship, that were made by my doctor that I reported the abuse to,” Heard said.

Guthrie and her reporting team looked at the notes to confirm what Heard had been telling her therapist since 2012.

Depp’s team released a statement to NBC regarding Heard’s claims without naming them:

“It is unfortunate that while Johnny is trying to get on with his life, the defendant and her team are faced with matters that have already been decided by the court and a verdict passed unanimously and unequivocally by a jury in Johnny’s favor.”

Heard’s spokesperson also issued a statement today in response: “If Mr. Depp or his team have a problem with this, we recommend that Johnny himself sit down with Savannah Guthrie for an hour and answer all of her questions.”

Heard counterclaimed, and a jury trial on the defamation charges ended June 2 with a verdict overwhelmingly in Depp’s favour.
